Levante meets Villarreal for the opening day of the Spanish La Liga. Levante enjoyed an excellent season in Segunda as they cruised to the title to grab the promotion to 2017-2018 edition of La Liga. This tie is, in fact, a Valencia-derby with both teams representing the South-East corner of Spain. Levante have won two games from their main pre-season schedule and both victories arrived against Segunda opposition in Murcia and Elche. It hasn’t been an easy summer for Villarreal, saying a teary goodbye to long-serving defender Mateo Musacchio early on. The additions of Ruben Semedo, Enes Unal and Pablo Fornals have boosted the squad, but the Yellows haven’t managed too many positive results during pre-season. Levante have almost a full squad to pick from, with the exception of Roger Marti who is definitely going to miss out. Rober Pier is suspended. Mario Gaspar, Denis Cheryshev, Sergio Asenjo, Adrian Marin and Bruno Soriano will all miss out, meanwhile Fran Escriba will also be without key players Samu Castillejo and Cedric Bakambu through suspension.
