Feyenoord meets Manchester City for the opening day of the Champions League group stage. Having lifted a first Eredivisie title in 18 years last season, Feyenoord are now in the last 32 of the Champions League for the first time since 2002-2003. Feyenoord have lost six of the last nine games they have played against English clubs in all competitions. They are making their fifth Champions League appearance. The Rotterdam club have never made the knockout stages of the Champions League in their four previous participations. This is City’s seventh consecutive Champions League participation. They have made it past the last 16 only once, it was in 2015-16 when they reached the semi-finals. Manchester City have won none of their last six away games in the Champions League (0-3-3), conceding 14 goals in the process. Ridgeciano Haps and Nicolai Jorgensen will miss the game for Feyenoord, meanwhile Raheem Sterling is back after a domestic ban for City.
